Early Monday morning, a large advertising sign belonging to the insurance giant Generali partially collapsed on the roof of a 200-meter-high skyscraper in Milan's CityLife district. The incident, which occurred around 6:30 a.m., prompted immediate response from local fire services to secure the area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and surrounding buildings remained unharmed.
Videos of the incident show one of the two signs falling into the building's exterior. The fire department, led by engineer Marco Grampella, quickly evacuated the tower and its vicinity, setting up barriers to ensure public safety. Grampella noted that the metal structure supporting the sign had failed, though the exact cause remains under investigation. 'We don't yet know why this failure occurred,' he stated, emphasizing the need for additional safety measures to prevent further risks.
Generali assured the public that the area around the building and the sign itself had been secured, with no immediate danger of further collapse. However, the company is working closely with authorities to assess the situation and implement necessary precautions. Staff at the skyscraper were advised to work remotely as investigations continue.
The Milan Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the incident, focusing on potential negligence. As the city awaits further details, the focus remains on ensuring the safety of the structure and preventing similar occurrences in the future.
