Simeone's Torino Future Secured as Cairo Reveals Automatic Purchase Clause

20-10-2025

Torino president Urbano Cairo has confirmed that striker Giovanni Simeone is effectively already a permanent signing for the club, revealing that the Argentine's loan deal includes an "easily triggered" mandatory purchase clause. Speaking on Rai Radio 1's Radio Anch'io Sport program, Cairo emphasized that the club considers Simeone "an acquired player" following his decisive goal in Saturday's victory over Napoli.

The Torino president disclosed that the club had been tracking Simeone since January of last season and made a strategic decision to secure his signature early in the summer transfer window. "This summer I told the coach to take him immediately and anticipate everyone instead of chasing another difficult-to-get striker," Cairo explained, noting that the swift acquisition has proven to be "an excellent thing to have done." The forward's performance in the early season has justified the club's confidence in his abilities.

Cairo praised Simeone's immediate impact and integration into the team, highlighting his embodiment of the "Toro spirit" that is "very important for the team and for all of us." The president noted that Simeone has performed exceptionally well in the challenging start to the season, during which Torino has faced six of last year's top ten teams. The victory against Napoli marked another strong performance against top-tier opposition, following earlier success against Roma.

The Torino president also credited the club's passionate supporters for creating an environment where victory becomes "almost impossible" to avoid. Recalling his first year as president, when the team achieved promotion to Serie A with what he described as a "Brancaleone army" assembled from other clubs' cast-offs, Cairo emphasized how fan support has consistently propelled the team to exceed expectations. He specifically mentioned the Europa League campaign years as another example of how supporter enthusiasm has enabled achievements that might otherwise have been unattainable.
