Mafia Infiltration in Aeolian Islands Cruise Business Uncovered in Major Asset Confiscation

20-10-2025

Italian financial police in Catanzaro have executed a definitive confiscation order for assets valued at over €1.6 million from an individual connected to the Accorinti crime clan of Briatico. The seizure includes a land parcel with an overlying building and ownership shares in a local shipping company, following a decree issued by the Catanzaro Tribunal and partially modified by the Catanzaro Court of Appeal. The action represents a significant blow to suspected mafia economic infiltration in the legitimate tourism sector.

The confiscated assets are linked to a subject convicted by the Vibo Valentia Tribunal to four years and six months imprisonment for fraudulent transfer of values aggravated by the purpose of facilitating the Accorinti clan. The conviction stemmed from the "Costa Pulita" operation, which investigated the individual's involvement with remaining shares in the same shipping company now subject to confiscation. Judicial police investigations coordinated by the Catanzaro District Prosecutor's Office documented the suspect's activities supporting the criminal organization.

Investigators uncovered that the Accorinti crime group, supported by the powerful Mancuso clan of Limbadi/Nicotera, had infiltrated the mini-cruise business to the Aeolian Islands through the shipping company. The District Anti-Mafia Directorate's probe revealed how the mafia consortium inserted itself into this lucrative tourism sector, demonstrating organized crime's continued efforts to penetrate legitimate economic activities in southern Italy.

The individual currently faces additional charges in the "Cathago Maestrale-Olimpo-Imperium" mega-trial, where he is accused of mafia association with the hypothesis of organic membership in the Accorinti clan. The preventive patrimonial proceedings documented a significant disproportion between the assets in the subject's possession and his declared income for the 2007-2011 period, leading to his classification as a subject of "qualified dangerousness" under Italy's anti-mafia legislation. This confiscation concludes an articulated asset prevention procedure that highlights ongoing efforts to combat organized crime's economic influence.
