Nationwide Crackdown on Unlicensed Cosmetic Clinics Reveals Widespread Violations

12-06-2025

In a sweeping nationwide operation, Italian Carabinieri from the NAS (Nuclei Antisofisticazioni e Sanità) have uncovered a troubling landscape of unlicensed and non-compliant cosmetic clinics across the country. The campaign, conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, targeted 1,160 aesthetic centers and medical aesthetic studios, aiming to ensure the legality and safety of cosmetic medicine practices—a sector experiencing rapid growth but increasingly marred by unauthorized activities.

The findings were alarming: 132 facilities were found non-compliant, leading to 104 operators being reported to judicial authorities, 14 centers seized, and over €3.5 million worth of devices and pharmaceuticals confiscated. The operation spotlighted high-risk procedures such as filler injections, skin implants, and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatments for skin rejuvenation, all of which legally require execution by qualified medical personnel.

Among the most egregious cases uncovered was an unlicensed multi-specialist clinic in Milan, operating without the necessary health authorizations alongside an irregular aesthetic practice. In Rome, an individual was reported for performing hyaluronic acid injections without any health qualification, presenting a foreign certificate not recognized in Italy. Meanwhile, in Naples, authorities seized areas of an unlawfully established aesthetic center within a pharmacy, along with all equipment used for 'advanced aesthetics.'

This extensive operation not only highlights the risks posed by unregulated cosmetic procedures but also underscores the commitment of Italian authorities to safeguarding public health. With 32 criminal violations identified, including the illegal practice of healthcare professions and unauthorized clinic operations, the crackdown sends a clear message against the dangers of non-compliant aesthetic medicine practices.
