Neapolitan Crime Wave: Two Executions in 24 Hours Raise Camorra Alarm

12-06-2025

In a chilling reminder of the Camorra's grip on the Naples area, two men were executed in separate incidents within 24 hours, sparking fears of a resurgence in clan violence. Pasquale Buono, a 45-year-old shop owner, was gunned down in his lingerie store in Afragola, while Antonio Vitale, 56, was shot dead in his car in nearby Cardito. Both murders bore the hallmarks of organized crime hits, with masked assailants on motorcycles carrying out the attacks.

The murder of Pasquale Buono occurred in broad daylight on Corso Italia, Afragola's bustling main street. Two individuals, their faces obscured by helmets, entered the 'Arcobaleno' lingerie store and opened fire, striking Buono multiple times in the back. Despite immediate efforts by bystanders and emergency services, Buono succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His father, present during the attack, was unharmed but left traumatized by the brutal execution.

Less than a day earlier and just a few kilometers away, Antonio Vitale met a similar fate. Known to law enforcement, Vitale was ambushed while in his car with his wife, who witnessed the attack. The perpetrators, also on a high-powered motorcycle, fired a volley of shots, killing Vitale instantly. The proximity and timing of the murders have led investigators to probe potential links between the two cases, with suspicions pointing towards a broader conflict within the local Camorra factions.

Authorities are piecing together the motives behind these executions, with the Moccia clan's dominance in the area under scrutiny. The killings have reignited concerns over the Camorra's ability to strike with impunity, despite ongoing efforts to dismantle its networks. As the community reels from the violence, the question remains whether these are isolated incidents or the prelude to a wider turf war in Naples' shadowy underworld.
