Maggio dei Monumenti 2025: A Tribute to Fire and David Lynch

30-04-2025

Naples is set to captivate locals and visitors alike with the 31st edition of Maggio dei Monumenti, a historic festival promoted and funded by the City of Naples. Running from May 2nd to June 1st, this year's theme revolves around fire, inspired by Matilde Serao's expression, 'Naples, burning heart, enlightened mind.' The festival aims to celebrate the city's identity, its capacity for regeneration, and its passionate spirit through a collective narrative that spans all its Municipalities.

The highlight of this year's festival is a tribute to the visionary genius David Lynch, who passed away this year. On Friday, May 30th, Piazza del Gesù will host an open-air screening of the pilot episode of the cult series Twin Peaks, followed by a marathon of the series at the Multicinema Modernissimo on May 31st. These events promise to immerse attendees in the aesthetic and psychic blaze that has immortalized Lynch's work.

Beyond the screenings, Maggio dei Monumenti offers over 320 events, including creative workshops, author meetings, and urban performances. Each event is designed to transform the city's cultural heritage into a dynamic and engaging experience. The festival also features the OFF Program, which explores the fire of revolutions and alchemy, thanks to the participation of numerous entities, institutions, universities, and associations.

From 'Rosso Napoletano' in Bagnoli with Tony Esposito to the 'Fuochi di passioni' itineraries in the Third Municipality, the festival showcases the diverse interpretations of fire. Additional highlights include performances and readings dedicated to the city's history, such as Maurizio de Giovanni's 'Le Vie del Fuoco' at Vomero, and the popular music festival 'Fuocotammorremadonne' in the Sixth Municipality. The collaboration with the Fondazione Napoli Novantanove and schools continues with the project 'La scuola adotta un monumento,' further enriching the festival's offerings.
