Italian Authorities Seize 1,200 Child Abuse Files in Sicily Raid

28-09-2025

Italian authorities in Palermo have arrested a 60-year-old man following an investigation that uncovered extensive child pornography materials and equipment used to impersonate police officers. The operation, conducted by the Western Sicily Cyber Security Operational Center under the direction of the Palermo Public Prosecutor's Office, resulted in the seizure of numerous electronic devices containing illicit content.

During searches of the suspect's residence, investigators discovered approximately 1,200 files of child pornography material across multiple storage devices including hard drives, USB flash drives, and smartphones. The majority of the confiscated material depicted minors under the age of 14, according to police statements following the operation.

In addition to the digital evidence, law enforcement officials seized a Beretta 92 FS blank pistol missing its red safety cap, along with two magazines and numerous blank cartridges. The suspect also possessed various items designed to simulate police functions, including fake qualification badges, handcuffs, a traffic baton, and a blue flashing light typically used by law enforcement vehicles.

The 60-year-old suspect, who authorities described as having a severe disability, faces multiple charges including possession of child pornography materials and unauthorized possession of counterfeit police identification. Following his arrest, the preliminary investigations judge at the Palermo Court validated the detention and ordered the man to be placed under house arrest while investigations continue into potential connections to child pornography distribution networks.
