Italian Authorities Impose DASPO Orders Following Ultra Violence at Eccellenza Match

26-09-2025

Thirteen football fans have been banned from sporting events following violent clashes between rival supporter groups during an Eccellenza league match in Saronno last April. The Varese police commissioner Carlo Mazza issued the DASPO (Divieto di accesso a manifestazioni sportive) orders against ultras from FBC Saronno and Legnano ASDARL after investigations confirmed their involvement in the disturbances.

The match had already been classified as high-risk due to longstanding hostility between the opposing fan bases. As a precautionary measure, the Varese Prefect had prohibited ticket sales to residents of Milan province to discourage Legnano supporters from traveling to the away game. Despite these measures, approximately 80 Legnano ultras arrived at the sports facility using private vehicles, while other fans came directly from Saronno.

Confrontations between the two supporter groups escalated despite police presence, with clashes involving blows from sticks and flagpoles lasting several minutes before public order personnel intervened to disperse the most violent individuals. The subsequent investigation by DIGOS (Divisione Investigazioni Generali e Operazioni Speciali) identified those responsible for the conduct, leading to charges including aggravated brawling, disguising oneself in public places, and violence during sporting events.

Based on the investigative findings, Commissioner Mazza issued thirteen stadium ban orders, with eleven lasting two years and two lasting five years for repeat offenders who must also report to authorities periodically. The measures reflect ongoing efforts by Italian authorities to combat football-related violence through administrative sanctions that restrict access to sporting venues.
