High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Tragedy in Castelfranco Veneto

28-09-2025

A high-speed police chase ended in tragedy Saturday evening in Sant'Andrea Oltre Muson, a district of Castelfranco Veneto in the Treviso province, leaving one man dead and another seriously injured. The incident occurred when a Ford Fusion failed to stop at a Carabinieri checkpoint and initiated a pursuit that lasted only moments before the vehicle crashed violently. According to initial reconstructions, the driver had been committing multiple traffic violations and was traveling at excessive speed when authorities attempted to intercept the vehicle.

The fatal collision occurred when the fleeing car first struck a lighting pole, then crashed into a tree before ultimately overturning. The impact proved immediately fatal for 27-year-old Simone Stepich, a Castelfranco resident who was seated in the passenger seat. The driver, 37-year-old Michele Stepich, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was airlifted via helicopter ambulance to the emergency room of Treviso Hospital.

Authorities confirmed that the driver was already known to law enforcement and was operating the vehicle without a valid license, as his driving privileges had been previously revoked. The Carabinieri patrol had initiated the pursuit after observing the vehicle committing multiple traffic code violations while traveling at high speeds through the residential area. The entire chase sequence unfolded rapidly, with the vehicle leaving the roadway and crashing shortly after the pursuit began.

Emergency responders, including additional Carabinieri units, rushed to the scene following the crash to secure the area and assist the victims. The incident occurred on the evening of September 27, 2025, in the quiet district of Sant'Andrea Oltre Muson, where residents witnessed the brief but fatal pursuit. The wrecked vehicle was subsequently recovered from the scene as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragic outcome of the police chase.
