A tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Monday, October 20, in Recoaro, Vicenza, when a vehicle plunged from a bridge into the Agno river below. The incident took place on Via della Resistenza near the Recoaro facility, with emergency services receiving the alarm around 6:30-6:35 AM. According to initial reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then breached the bridge parapet before falling onto the riverbed.
Emergency response teams including the Suem medical service and firefighters rushed to the scene with a fire engine, aerial ladder, and seven operators. Despite their rapid intervention, rescue personnel confirmed the driver had died upon reaching the vehicle. The recovery operation required specialized Saf techniques to retrieve the body from the wreckage site.
The circumstances leading to the accident remain under investigation by carabinieri who arrived at the scene to conduct measurements and reconstruct the incident's dynamics. While some reports suggest a possible medical episode may have caused the driver to lose control, official conclusions await completion of the investigative process.
The vehicle involved was identified in reports as either a car or a Fiat Fiorino van, which sustained extensive damage from the violent impact. The bridge at Via della Resistenza, located in the Filanda area, became the site of coordinated recovery efforts as authorities worked to clear the wreckage from the Agno riverbed while maintaining proper investigative protocols.
