Sardinian Gang Apprehended After High-Profile Armored Vehicle Robbery

20-05-2025

In a significant breakthrough, Italian authorities have arrested 11 individuals in connection with a daring daylight robbery of two armored trucks on the SS1 Aurelia in San Vincenzo on March 28, 2025. The suspects, all of Sardinian origin and aged between 33 and 54, are accused of a range of charges including aggravated robbery, possession of war weapons, ammunition, explosives, and common firearms, as well as aggravated theft and receiving stolen goods.

The operation, which saw the deployment of over 300 Carabinieri, including specialized units, was conducted across the provinces of Nuoro, Pisa, and Bologna. The arrests were made following a detailed investigation that uncovered the suspects' roles in the meticulously planned heist, which netted approximately 3 million euros. The investigation revealed the gang's expertise in the use of weapons and explosives, alongside months of preparatory activities, the creation of alibis, and the acquisition of stolen vehicles used to block the armored trucks.

Commander Piercarmine Sica of the Livorno Provincial Carabinieri Command highlighted the complexity of the operation and the collaborative effort of various specialized units in bringing the suspects to justice. The successful operation underscores the challenges law enforcement faces in combating organized crime and the lengths to which criminal networks will go to execute high-stakes robberies.

Further details about the investigation and the suspects' alleged involvement are expected to be disclosed during a press conference scheduled for later today. This case marks a significant victory for Italian law enforcement in their ongoing battle against organized crime and armored vehicle robberies, which have seen a rise in sophistication and violence in recent years.
