Italy is set to face a severe weather challenge over the next 48 hours, as a Tunisian cyclone and a Polish front are expected to bring torrential rains, storms, and gale winds to parts of the country. Lorenzo Tedici, a meteorologist from iLMeteo.it, has confirmed the arrival of these weather disturbances, highlighting the highest alert for heavy rainfall, wind, and sea storms in Sicily and Calabria, with parts of southern Sardinia and the rest of the southern peninsula also affected.
The most intense rains are forecasted for Sicily, where rainfall could exceed 100 mm, equivalent to 100 liters of water per square meter. From the afternoon, torrential rains will also hit the same areas and the rest of the southern peninsula, while conditions are expected to improve in Sardinia. Simultaneously, the effects of the second disturbance, originating from the Baltic Republics and Poland, will bring showers, thunderstorms, and strong hailstorms to the Northeast, moving westward.
Friday is predicted to see the merging of these two disturbed fronts, creating what meteorologists describe as the 'perfect storm.' The cold Polish air will meet the warm Tunisian air, leading to heavy rainfall in the South and the Middle Adriatic, along with wind gusts, sea storms, and violent weather phenomena. This 'black Friday' precedes a weekend improvement, as the new Polish-Tunisian air mass moves towards Greece and Turkey, leaving Italy with clearer skies, though scattered showers may still occur, especially in the afternoon and near the Central-Northern reliefs.
The new week is expected to bring further disturbances, this time from the Atlantic sector, marking a continuation of unstable weather conditions across the country. Meteorologists urge residents in affected areas to stay informed and prepare for potential disruptions caused by the severe weather.
