AGRIcoltura100 Report Highlights Growth in Sustainable Farming Practices

13-05-2025

The latest findings from the AGRIcoltura100 report, a collaborative effort between Reale Mutua and Confagricoltura, underscore a significant trend among Italian agricultural firms: those investing in comprehensive sustainability practices are not only enhancing their environmental and social impact but are also seeing tangible economic benefits. The report, which surveyed 3,536 agricultural enterprises across all sectors and regions, utilized 288 variables to measure sustainability levels, revealing a clear correlation between sustainable practices and profitability.

Among the standout performers were Cherubini F.lli, a Lombardy-based nursery, and two prominent wine producers, San Felice and Cantina Produttori Valdobbiadene, which topped the rankings for overall sustainability scores. These firms exemplify how integrating sustainability into business models can lead to innovation, resilience, and growth, even in the face of geopolitical tensions, regulatory changes, and the challenges posed by climate change.

The report also delves into thematic areas such as women's employment and leadership, hydrogeological risk management, circular economy and energy self-sufficiency, Agriculture 4.0 and TEA (Techniques, Equipment, and Automation), and animal welfare. These focus areas highlight the multifaceted approach Italian farms are taking towards sustainability, addressing not just environmental concerns but also social and economic dimensions.

As the European Union navigates the complex process of defining the next Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the AGRIcoltura100 report serves as a timely reminder of the critical role sustainability plays in the future of farming. With climate change posing an ever-increasing threat, the agricultural sector's commitment to sustainable development is not just a moral imperative but a strategic one, ensuring the resilience and prosperity of Italy's agricultural landscape for years to come.
